Research

Once upon a time, market research needed a team of professionals calling the public, sending out questionnaires, and tabulating data in order to get a general idea of the cross-section of their hoped-for demographic, for which they could craft general messages.

Market research can be done by the ordinary citizen nowadays – all it takes is insight into one’s own customer base and some aptly chosen keywords in a Google search. Still, it does require general knowledge of demographic breakdowns:
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Income
  • Education
  • Zip Code
Try to delineate at least 3 to 5 different demographics that would utilize your products/services, and factor statistical guidelines for those groups. It can be of great use when trying to decide how to create the content that will best appeal to your particular customer bases. Learn each buyer persona’s trends, their proclivities, and their buying habits. Learn what they read, where they shop, and why they buy certain brands over others.

I still don't get it.
